Unsere Reise ein paar Jahre vorher nach Sri Lanka sollte uns auf Indien vorbereiten, aber kein Land kann einen auf Indien vorbereiten. Angefangen von der Landung in Delhi, den Menschenmassen in der Stadt, über die enorme Bürokratie hin zur einzigartigen Natur. Man kann alles bekommen.
Schwerpunkt unserer Reise war die Natur und der Wunsch einen Bengalischen Tiger in freier Wildbahn zu sehen.

Our trip to Sri Lanka a few years earlier was meant to prepare us for India, but no country can truly prepare you for India. From the moment we landed in Delhi, through the crowds in the city and the overwhelming bureaucracy, right up to the unique natural landscape – you can experience it all.
The focus of our trip was nature and the hope of seeing a Bengal tiger in the wild.

Natürlich gibt es nicht nur Tiger in Indien. Das ist ein wilder Gaur, das größte Rind der Erde mit bis zu 1,5 Tonnen Gewicht und selbst für einen erwachsenen männlichen Köngigstiger eine Herausforderung. Die Tiere sind gefährdet und es ist sehr schön, dass wir sie sehen und beobachten konnten. Die Weibchen sind kleiner und kommen dann eher als Beute für den Tiger in Frage, als solche Muskelpakete.
Of course, there aren’t only tigers in India. This is a wild gaur, the largest bovine on Earth, weighing up to 1.5 tonnes and a challenge even for an adult male tiger. The animals are endangered, so it was wonderful that we were able to see and observe them. The females are smaller and are more likely to fall prey to tigers than these muscular beasts.
Etwas Kultur muss auch sein und wenn man in Indien ist, wäre es nicht zu verzeihen, wenn man sich nicht das Taj Mahal anschaut. Wir sind mit dem Zug von Delhi nach Agra gefahren und haben uns Zeit genommen. Der ganze Komplex ist deutlich größer als wir dachten und hat uns wirklich sehr beeindruckt.
Es lohnt sich also wirklich, auch wenn man das auf Bilder schon oft gesehen hat. Scheu vor Menschenmassen sollte man allerdings nicht haben.
A bit of culture is a must, and when you’re in India, it would be unforgivable not to visit the Taj Mahal. We took the train from Delhi to Agra and made sure to allow plenty of time. The whole complex is much larger than we’d imagined and really left us in awe.
So it’s definitely worth a visit, even if you’ve seen it in photos many times before. You shouldn’t be put off by crowds, though.
Reisen in Indien ist anstrengend, wir sind auf unseren Touren ständig kontrolliert worden. Auf den Flughäfen müssen Sachen abgegeben werden, die sonst nie ein Problem waren, Diskussionen kann man sich schenken. Die Bevölkerung selbst ist freundlich und hilfsbereit, man sollte sich aber nicht wundern, wenn man häufig bist ständig darauf angesprochen wird, ob ein Foto mit dem Kind, der Frau, der ganzen Familie und mit dem Gast aus Europa möglich wäre. Das Bild wird dann umgehen gepostet.
Travelling in India is exhausting; we were constantly being checked during our tours. At airports, you have to hand over items that would otherwise never have been a problem – there’s no point in arguing. The locals themselves are friendly and helpful, but you shouldn’t be surprised if you’re frequently – if not constantly – asked whether you’d mind having your photo taken with their child, their wife, the whole family, or with the visitor from Europe. The photo is then posted straight away.
